Egypt’s oil refining activity increased by 22.4% year-on-year (YoY) in Q3 of fiscal year (FY) 2025/26, while the sector recorded 8.7% growth for the full fiscal year, according to the Cabinet.

The figures were reviewed during a meeting between Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and Ahmed Rostom, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, covering petroleum sector performance, production, investment and services.

The meeting also highlighted the expansion of fuel service stations, with the number rising from 2,900 in 2014 to 4,107 by the end of FY2025/26, supporting remote areas, new urban communities and growing demand.

Badawi said crude oil production has returned to growth; refining activity continues to expand, and the decline in natural gas production has been contained. The ministry is prioritising increased domestic oil and gas production through field development and intensified exploration to meet demand and reduce imports.

The settlement of outstanding dues to foreign partners has supported the restoration of investor confidence and investment flows into exploration and field development. The ministry is also expanding household natural gas connections, vehicle conversions, and fuelling infrastructure.

Meanwhile, cooperation on connecting Cypriot gas fields to Egypt’s infrastructure is expected to strengthen the country’s regional energy hub role and provide additional gas supplies for the domestic market.

Egypt’s crude oil production exceeded 540,000 barrels per day (bbl/d) in June 2026, while FY2025/26 recorded $4.5 billion in exploration and production investments and 63 discoveries, according to the Ministry of Petroleum.
