Egypt's parliament has approved four oil and gas exploration and development agreements as the country continues to accelerate upstream investment and expand domestic energy production.
The agreements cover exploration and production activities across North Sinai, the Nile Delta, the Mediterranean and the Eastern Desert, supporting Egypt's strategy to unlock new hydrocarbon resources while meeting growing domestic energy demand.
Among the approved agreements is a partnership between the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and Perenco North Sinai Petroleum Inc. to explore the Al-Fayrouz onshore concession in North Sinai. Awarded through EGAS's 2024 international licensing round, the project will include a 3D seismic survey and the drilling of an exploratory well to evaluate the area's resource potential.
The approvals reflect Egypt's continued focus on strengthening its upstream sector, encouraging international investment and reinforcing its position as a strategic regional energy hub. They also come at a time when energy security remains a global priority, with geopolitical uncertainty and supply challenges placing renewed emphasis on developing reliable domestic production.
